If you are faced with an amputation, it's not uncommon to feel a wide
range of emotions and to have many questions and concerns. At Joplin Prosthetics and Orthotics, we can help you with those emotions and questions. We offer complete, compassionate care, taking you from the
amputation process to getting you back to daily living by listening to
your needs. We do this by providing you a thorough education and utilizing the most
current technology available.
In order to achieve the very best results, we treat the whole patient, addressing both the physical and emotional
issues that come with an amputation. It’s important to allow yourself
time to grieve and deal with what losing a part of your body means to
you.
We also have available the services of a Limb Loss Support Coordinator, who can
provide information and resources, answer your most important questions and can arrange peer
visits between people with similar amputations.

Our goals are:
- To work with you and to educate you about amputation and do our best to answer all of your questions
- After surgery we will follow up to ensure that your limb(s) is healing properly
- We can offer additional services, such as, Coordinating with occupational therapy and physical therapy to ensure
you are improving strength, range of motion and balance, and are
relearning daily living skills
- Not all new amputees have difficulty with pain. However, if you do we will ensure your pain issues are handled and address phantom pain (feeling pain in a limb that is no longer there)
- It is important you learn how to treat your amputation after surgery and we can assist in teaching you proper wound care
- Educate you about the various prosthetics available
- Fit you for your custom prosthesis
- Train you in using and caring for your prosthesis
- We will always be their for you by providing follow-up care as needed
